Lexington Four's primary goal for reopening our schools is a return to a five-day weekly schedule for on-campus instruction as safely and as soon as possible. Our current reopening plan provides parents and students with a choice between a K-12 virtual program or hybrid model consisting of both on-campus and virtual instruction. Our planned use of a hybrid model is necessary to meet safety recommendations from the SC Department of Education, SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), and Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Our plan is designed to be responsive to continually changing factors including local COVID spread, the health of faculty and students in each building, the number of students at each school enrolled in the virtual program, and the Governor's orders. We intend to follow our posted 2020-21 District Calendar by beginning instruction on August 17, 2020.Today Governor McMaster communicated recommendations that all districts engage in a five-day weekly schedule for on-campus instruction and revise their school start date to provide additional preparation time for opening schools safely. Due to the Governor's newly announced recommendations, Lexington Four must review our plan in collaboration with the SC Department of Education to ensure we meet legal mandates while maintaining our ability to follow established health and safety guidelines to the extent possible.
We understand that our families and community have many questions and want our plan finalized so that they may adequately prepare for the upcoming school year. As today's events remind us, circumstances during this unprecedented time are continuously changing, and we must all be ready to adapt. We appreciate your patience as we review our plan in response to the Governor's recommendations and look forward to communicating our full plan with you in the coming days.
